Lawyer Oriana Pun will step in as the new defence lawyer for former top official Ho Chio Meng, according to broadcaster TDM. The lawyer will request additional time beyond the mandated 30 days to prepare the defence, she told the broadcaster.
The news comes in advance of tomorrow’s deadline that Ho was given for choosing a new lawyer, following his former defence abandoning the case last week.
The lawyer is a member of the board of the Macau Lawyers Association (AAM) and speaks Portuguese.
The former Prosecutor-general is up on over 1,500 charges relating to allegedly forming a criminal organization, and illicit payments and hiring practices with allegedly linked companies for services provided to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), among other charges.
