Poker tournament winner takes home HK$50 million

A stunning HK$50.1 million (US$6.5 million) – that is how much Stanley Choi, the winner of last Friday’s “Macau High Stakes Challenge” poker tournament took home. The buy-in, one-day tournament was said to be the richest in Asian poker history, according to several international poker specialized media. Its first prize is allegedly the 10th biggest top prize in the history of tournament poker. The tournament had a field of 73 players and lasted for 14 hours. The event featured a HK$2 million buy-in with an optional HK$2 million re-buy. It was backed by Hong Kong-listed junket investor Neptune Group Ltd and was held at StarWorld’s Poker King Club, which has previously welcomed several other high-stakes poker cash games in recent years. Participants included some of the world’s top professional poker players such as Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Joe Hachem.
