Police reject role dictating casino surveillance

No pressure has been put on casinos to increase closed-circuit television surveillance to deter money laundering, GamblingCompliance reports. The website says the Judiciary Police denied a report in the Apple Daily newspaper that casinos had been told to install more cameras. The website quoted a police spokesman as saying the casinos were solely responsible for surveillance. The Hong Kong newspaper reported that mainland officials demanded more cameras to deter money laundering, especially by high-level politicians such as Bo Xilai. GamblingCompliance also said conmen had cashed fake RMB10,000 (US$1,650) chips purporting to be from SJM Holdings Ltd’s Ponte 16 casino.
