Portugal: President concerned with European and world context

Lisbon – At the end of a visit to the installations of Portugal’s Food Bank against Hunger, in Lisbon, at a time when volunteers are gearing up to kick off the yearly Christmas campaign to collect food for people in need, Rebelo de Sousa said the best strategy to eradicate poverty was to “grow in a sustained way.”

Asked whether the state budget for 2019, which was approved on Thursday at parliament, had the base for sustained growth, Rebelo de Sousa refused to comment before having read it.

However, he did say that he was particularly concerned with Britain’s exit from the EU and the trade war between China and the United States.
