Portugal: Yellow alert for the Algarve

Portugal's Algarve region is to have a yellow alert in the upcoming days because of high seas and a moderate risk of fires, according to the Portuguese weather service (IPMA)

IPMA has placed the Portuguese southern coast under yellow alert until Saturday due to forecasts of swell from the southwest.

Cortes Lopes, from the southern maritime command, said the conditions were normal for this time of the year and called for the people to be careful of the sea conditions.

He said high waveds were expected to intensify on Friday and continue into the weekend with waves of more than 2 metres.
