The president of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong, Eric Wishart, will be in the MSAR to conduct a talk entitled “News Judgement, Fact-Checking and Fake News”, at the invitation of the Macau Portuguese and English Press Association (AIPIM). The event, will take place at the Military Club on Friday at 6:30pm.
Mr. Wishart is a part-time lecturer at Hong Kong Baptist University and is a member of the global news management agency Agence France-Presse (AFP).
AIPIM recently expressed its concern over ‘uncertainty’ regarding the news coverage of the upcoming Legislative Elections, noting in a release late last month that ‘it is crucial that the right to information and press freedom are fully respected,’ before and during the campaign process, including ‘interviews and news coverage involving candidates running in the elections’. The group urged the Electoral Affairs Committee not to issue guidelines on coverage.
