Restaurants short of 3,016 workers at end-March

Macau’s hotels had 2,976 vacancies at the end of March, 890 more than a year earlier, and the city’s restaurants had 3,016 vacancies, 909 more, official data show. The Statistics and Census Service says 22,782 people worked in restaurants, 14.1 percent more than a year earlier. Restaurants had the a vacancy rate of 11.7 percent in the first quarter of this year, 2.2 percentage points more than a year earlier, and an employee turnover rate of 7.5 percent, 0.6 percentage point more. The average earnings of full-time employees of hotels, excluding bonuses and allowances, were MOP15,160 (US$1,898) at the end of March, or 9.7 percent more than a year earlier, and the average earnings of restaurant employees were MOP8,510, or 5.2 percent more.
