After 10 years, Melina Leong departs Sands China

Melina Leong Sio Mok, chief operating officer (COO) of Cotai Ferry Co. Ltd. has left the company ending a 10-year professional link with Sands China. The ferry company is a subsidiary of gaming operator Sands China.
Ms. Leong was working as COO of Cotai Ferry since December of last year, following her brother Leonel Leong’s appointment as the new Secretary for Economy and Finance of the city in the same month. Prior to taking up this position, she had served as a senior vice president of public relations and community affairs with Sands China for nearly 10 years.
The former Sands China employee said she felt it was time to focus on her family after 30 years of work and 10 at Sands China. The decision to leave the parent company of casino operator Las Vegas Sands was not an easy one, she said.
At the time of her appointment to Cotai Ferry, the chief executive of Sands China, Edward Tracy, said that the reason for the promotion was that “Melina’s performance in public relations and community affairs has been outstanding and being one of our long-serving locals the company would like her to advance further and take up new challenges.”
The ferry company was established in 2007 with its Cotai Water Jet ferries providing services between the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Hong Kong. She also represented Sands China at the Tourism Development Committee – which is concerned with the city’s tourism development strategies, measures and polices – headed by Secretary for Social Affairs Alexis Tam Chon Weng and Director of Macau Government Tourist Office Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, who are chairman and acting chairperson, respectively. The Committee comprises a maximum of 52 members, including 13 representatives from the government, according to its official website.
