The Macau International Airport (MIA) announced that it will add a total of 102 flights for the Chinese New Year period, mainly to Bangkok, Hangzhou, Changzhou, Nanjing, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Da Nang, and other destinations.
These new flights will be provided in the period starting from January 18 to February 6.
The airport noted that January saw a new single-day record of 30,000 passengers and 250 aircraft movements, with MIA expecting its first peak passenger flow in 2020 during the Spring Festival travel season.
‘It is predicted that during January 18 to February 6, MIA will handle over 4,834 aircraft movements, with average daily movement 240, while welcoming 716,000 arriving and departing passengers, with daily average passenger volume of 35,000, representing an increase of 5.9 per cent compared to the same period of last year,’ the airport indicated.
Therefore and in order to cope with the holiday season, MIA decided to add these extra flights and strengthen flight and passenger services, with an airport operation meeting held earlier to coordinate arrangements with airlines and airport entities and to provide operational data on the number of flights and the hourly distribution estimated passenger numbers in advance.
Check-in services for all flights will be stopped 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time with passengers are reminded to reserve more time to arrive at the airport, with parking promotions to be launched from January 23 to February 4.
