Air Macau increases flights to Taiwan in Jan 2021, maintains Mainland China and Japan flights

Local airline Air Macau will increase the number of flights between Macau and Taiwan for January, 2021, while maintaining the number and frequency of its Mainland China and Japan flights.

The carrier will increase the number of flights to and from Taipei in January and add a Macau-Kaohsiung route.

Air Macau will operate a Macau-Taipei flight every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the whole month, but between January 20 and 27 it will add a daily flight and a flight operating every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

A daily Taipei-Macau flight will also operate every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday for the whole month, except on January 21, 23, 24 and 26, and a new daily Macau-Kaohsiung route between January 20 and 27.

Taiwanese authorities recently announced that starting from December 1, 2020, until February 28, 2021 travellers arriving at airports in Taiwan or transit passengers at airports in Taiwan, regardless of nationality or travel purpose (studies, work, diplomatic or official business, or others) are all required to present a certificate of a negative COVID-19 test result issued within three working days of boarding before they are allowed to board their flight to Taiwan.

The test result must be issued by a medical institution deemed qualified by the local government in the traveller’s place of departure and shall be written in English, Chinese, or both.

People coming from Taiwan to Macau are still required to complete a 14-day medical observation even with a negative nucleic acid test.

As for Mainland China, Air Macau will maintain its routes connecting Macau to Beijing, Shanghai (Hongqiao and Pudong), Hangzhou, Nanjing, Changzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Nanning, Jieyangchaoshan, Tianjin, Taiyuan, Ningbo, Chongqing and Wenzhou.

The only change on these routes will be a reduction in the frequency of the Macau -Jieyangchaoshan route (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and an increase in the frequency of its Macau-Tianjin flight (Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday).

Air Macau will maintain its Tokyo-Macau route every Thursday in January of next year, except on January 4.

It was recently revealed that Air Macau will hold a general assembly meeting of its shareholders to deliberate on an increase of capital via a cash injection from the local government, which holds a 21.5 per cent stake in the carrier.

This comes after Air Macau reported over MOP500 million losses in the first half of this year, after 10 years of reported profits.

Currently only three airlines are opertaing flights via the Macau International Airport, namelly Air Macau and Taiwanese airlines Eva Air and Starlux Airlines.

Passenger traffic in MIA has jumped by 112 per cent between August and September to some 13,813, data published by the airport’s operating company indicates.
