The passenger volume at the Macau International Airport has recovered to about 20 per cent of pre-pandemic levels during the first half of 2021, the airport’s managing company indicated.
Between January and June of this year, the local airport reported more than 670,000 passengers, with May, which included the Labour Day Golden Week seeing the highest number of passengers, some 174,846.
However, at the moment almost all routes available at MIA cover mainland China destinations, and numbers still plan in comparison to the 9.6 million passengers reported in 2019.
‘Currently, routes to China are mainly restored in the market, among the 21 routes to China, 70 per cent of the passengers choose routes to Eastern China, such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen, etc,’ the Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) revealed.
‘Among them, the Shanghai route increased to an average of twelve round-trip flights per day in July and August, returning to the level before the epidemic’
