Ambrose So bullish on tourism diversification

Macau’s economy will in the future diversify away from being gaming focused, says SJM Holdings Ltd’s chief executive officer, Ambrose So Shu Fai. Talking at an investors’ conference in Beijing last week, Mr So stressed Macau is not just an Asian version of Las Vegas. “I foresee an evolution of Macau’s tourism brand – from today’s dominant features of casino resorts and heritage sites, to a destination associated with a diverse range of tourism and leisure activities and integrated to a greater degree with the surrounding region,” Mr So was quoted as saying by English-language newspaper Business Daily. “Macau is not an Asian version of Las Vegas. Its growth and change has followed a different track and will continue to diverge significantly from Vegas – both for important cultural and geographic reasons,” Mr So added.
