Angola: Child loses arms, leg due to mine explosion in Huambo

An eight-year-old child lost his arms and a leg in the Angolan province of Huambo, due to a mine explosion, local public radio reported on Monday.

According to a spokesman for Huambo General Hospital, the child’s condition is stable even though both upper and lower limbs have been amputated.

Félix Ulica said that the incident occurred in the neighbourhood of São João, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo when the child was looking for metals to sell.

He called on parents and guardians to be careful and asked companies that buy scrap not to buy scrap from minors, which would lead to this type of incident.
