Angola: Luanda railway line reopens after major works

The Luanda railroad (CFL) announced on Wednesday the restart of rail traffic to Malanje province, after 10 days’ suspension for works on the railway line.

According to a statement from CFL, seen by Lusa, traffic between Luanda, Kwanza Norte and Malanje was restored with two freight trains to the two provinces.

The suspension of traffic for 10 days was due to construction work on two bridges under the platform of the railroad to drain rainwater, on National Road 230, the statement said.

For Wednesday, fuel transport trains are due to resume in Angola’s Malanje province.

“Construction of the hydraulic crossings at kilometres 36+600 and 37+100, respectively, began on 11 April and was carried out by CFL technicians and specialists, whose experience made it possible to carry out an engineering project of that size in record time ​​​​​​,” the document said.

Although finishing work is still in progress, the trains can run again, guarantees CFL, which highlights the involvement in the work of about 20 employees assigned to the track department.

CFL, which opened in 1909, is 460 kilometres long and links the Angolan capital, Luanda, to the provinces of Kwanza Norte and Malanje.
