Angola: President greenlights further 13 privatisations of state assets

The Angolan president has authorised the privatisation of a further 13 industrial units, as part of the sale of assets, according to a presidential order seen by Lusa on Friday.

The units, in the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone, include poultry farms, steel and metal-mechanical industries, tile and beam industry, agricultural irrigation pivots, electric meters and appliances, as well as container storage areas (transit and logistics terminal).

The Angolan government has already raised 919.84 billion kwanzas (1.9 billion euros) with privatisation contracts for 88 assets and companies, of which it has raised 534.97 billion kwanzas (1.1 billion euros).

By the end of the year, the privatisation programme (Propriv) plans to conclude around 44 such deals: in the financial sector, specifically Banco Caixa Geral de Angola and the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (Bodiva), in telecommunications, TV Cabo.

Privatisation is also planned, in industry, of the fourth phase of assets in the special economic zone, Secil Lobito – Lobito Cement Companies and Universo CIF industrial units, in construction, of Mota-Engil Angola, and in agribusiness, Fazenda de Sanza Pombo and Empreendimento do Cubal – Fábrica de Farinha de Milho do Cubal (Cubal cornflower factory).
