Authorities prosecute 7 cases of unlicensed Uber taxi services

Local police prosecuted seven cases of drivers providing unlicensed taxi services via ride-sharing application Uber as at the end of last week, the Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, said yesterday. According to Mr. Wong, six of the cases involved the use of motor vehicles belonging to travel agencies, while the other case involved a privately owned car. The Secretary stressed that the mobile application, which officially launched its service in the city in October, does not violate local laws. However, travel agencies co-operating with the application to provide unauthorised taxi services do break the law, he said.
