Average price for hotel room up 16.7 pct during Labour day holiday

Macau (MNA) – The average rate for a room in a hotel or guest house in Macau reached some MOP1,882.2 (US$232.93), during Mainland China’s Labour Day ‘Golden Week’ holiday, spanning May 1 to 4, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) stated in a press release on Monday.

The rate represents an increase of 16.7 per cent from the same holiday last year (April 29 to May 1).

According to the latest figures provided by industry operators, hotel establishments in the city saw an average occupancy rate of approximately 96.2 per cent during the Labour Day holiday, marking a year-on-year rise of 1.9 percentage point.

The MGTO has also noted that it carried out 12 joint actions with the Public Security Police Force (PSP) against illegal accommodation which led to the identification and sealing of eight apartments allegedly operated as illegal accommodation.

Macau received some 636,644 visitors during the four-day holiday.
