The Bala River in southwest China’s Guizhou Province flows through Leigong Mountain, a national nature reserve and national forest park. Many villages of ethnic Miao people stand along the river. Li Shulan, 58, works as a waterway cleaner on the Bala River. She is also renowned for singing Miao songs. Every day, Li wades the river and streams, covering a distance of nearly 10 kilometers and picking garbage in waterway.
