Cabo Verde: Twenty-eight new coronavirus cases; number of deaths unchanged at 21

Cabo Verde on Sunday confirmed 28 more cases of the new coronavirus that causes Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 2,042 cases since 19 March, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

In a statement, the ministry said that of 395 samples analysed in the country’s virology laboratories, five tested positive for the coronavirus in Praia, seven in Santa Cruz, five in Santa Catarina, two in Ribeira Grande and one in São Salvador do Mundo – all on the island of Santiago, the main focus of the disease in Cabo Verde.

Five new cases of the disease were also diagnosed on the island of Sal and three more in Ribeira Grande, on São Nicolau.

There were no more deaths, with the total remaining at 21.

Cabo Verde also registered 67 patients recovered from the disease in the 24 hours to Sunday, 49 of them in Praia and eight on the island of Sal, according to the ministry statement.

The Covid-19 pandemic has so far caused more than 601,000 deaths and infected more than 14.3 million people in 196 countries and territories.
