CE attends 40th anniversary of Shenzhen SEZ as Chinese President urges for better GBA integration

Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, has attended this morning’s ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen as a Special Economic Zone, together with Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has been on a tour to Guangdong since Monday as part of the anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, and in today’ event he asked for Shenzhen to take active moves to further promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, calling for efforts to synergize economic rules and mechanisms in the three regions.

Xi also urged for wider exchanges and deeper integration among young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to strengthen their sense of belonging to the motherland, while calling for efforts to explore a more flexible policy system and a more scientific management system in terms of domestic and foreign trade, investment and financing, finance and taxation, financial innovation, as well as personnel exit and entry.

The Macau SAR Secretary for Security, Wong Sio Chak, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elise Ao Ieong U and Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Raimundo do Rosário were also present in today’s event.

The CE has returned to Macau after the ceremony and will attend the opening ceremony of the 2020/2021 Judicial Year this afternoon.
