Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, will lead a Macau SAR Government delegation, from 23 to 28 September, to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, and Xi’an city in Shaanxi Province to attend the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference the Sichuan-Macau Cooperation Conference.
The Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Chief Executive Joint Conference is a platform launched in 2004 for regional cooperation between the nine provinces and two SARs – collectively known as the “9+2” – located in the PPRD Region, namely: Fujian; Jiangxi; Hunan; Guangdong; Guangxi; Hainan; Sichuan; Guizhou; Yunnan; the Hong Kong SAR; and the Macau SAR.
The visit comes as authorities have unveiled the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone development plan for Hengqin.
Ho will also attend the opening ceremony of the “Macao Week in Sichuan•Chengdu” roadshow event and the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games of China, in addition to site visits to local projects.
During the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games of China, held on 27 September, the CE will also take part in a ceremony jointly with Guangdong and Hong Kong to receive the flag of the National Games, with the three regions to co-host the next edition of the sporting event in 2025.
Macao has sent a 154-strong delegation to Shaanxi for the Games, which is being held from 15 to 27 September, with local karate-do athlete Jugo Kuok Kin Hang winning bronze in the men’s individual kata event, the first-ever medal for Macau since the SAR started participating in the National Games.
The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, will accompany Ho in the Sichuan visit, with the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong U, to join the visit in Shaanxi.
Secretary for Administration and Justice, Mr Cheong Weng Chon, will be the acting Chief Executive.
