Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng will head a Macau SAR delegation to the 2020 Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation Executive Heads Joint Meeting in Sanya, Hainan, to be held on September 18.
Created in 2004, the meeting brings together the governments of nine provinces -Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan – and the two SARs.
Ho will be in Hainan between September 16 and 18, with the meeting this year will focus on discussing the opportunities generated by Hainan as a free port, the development of a regional joint modern transport network of ports, corridors and large-scale centres, and the promotion of Pearl River Pan-Delta joint development.
In June of this year, China’s Ministry of Finance indicated that the country is planning a package of preferential policies to build Hainan province into a globally influential and high-quality free trade port, which will serve as a new growth engine for both the nation and the global economy.
Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wai Nong, the head of the Chief Executive’s Office, Hoi Lai Fong, and the Government’s Information Bureau (GCS) Director, Inês Chan, will also be part of the local delegation.
During the absence of the Chief Executive, the Secretary for Administration and Justice, André Cheong, will temporarily serve as Chief Executive
