CE vows to strengthen defense of Chinese sovereignty and fight against foreign interference in 2021

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng today (Friday) promised to reinforce the defense of Chinese sovereignty and the fight against external foreign interferences in 2021, as well as the launch of new socio-economic measures to fight the pandemic crisis.

On the day that the territory marked 21 years of Macau’s return to Chinese administration, Ho Iat Seng began by guaranteeing “new achievements […], implementing proactive financial policies and timely and effective measures and responses, promoting economic recovery, supporting with precision small and medium-sized enterprises, guaranteeing employment for residents” and “intensifying efforts to promote the adequate diversification of the economy that still needs new achievements and progress ”.

The government official justified the response measures after a year marked by the impact of the new coronavirus pandemic and “in the face of internal and external circumstances, which are still complex and changeable”.

The CE then promised to continue “to develop actions to disseminate and promote the National Constitution and the Basic Law, to fulfil the constitutional responsibilities of defending the sovereignty, security and development interests of the country, and to reinforce the conscience of national security for residents ”.

“We will intensify coordination and collaboration between the Government and society, consolidating the socio-political base of love for our country and love for Macau. Efficient measures will be taken to effectively prevent infiltration and intervention by external forces, in order to guarantee the stability and security of the Macau SAR,”, he added.

Inquired later to specify the measures to be carried out over this matter Ho stated he could not detail them as of this moment.

Previously Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak alleged that Hong Kong anti-government elements or Taiwan parties had previously attempted to influence local policy.
