Chile reported on Friday 7,590 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,109,311, as well as 157 more deaths to total 24,923, the Ministry of Health said.
Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris noted that restrictive measures “are allowing us to stop the rate of increase of new cases in some regions of the country.”
In the last 14 days, Chile has seen a 4 percent increase in COVID-19 cases.
The southern region of Los Rios had the highest incidence rate in the country per 100,000 inhabitants, while the regions with the greatest increase in cases in the last seven days were Araucania, Los Rios and Maule.
Meanwhile, more than 80 percent of the country’s residents are under quarantine, while borders remain closed.
