China’s stock market attracts over 18 mln new investors in 2020

Around 18.02 million investors in China opened accounts to trade stocks on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses in 2020, industry data showed.

The amount saw a 36.04-percent increase from 2019 hitting a record high since 2017, according to the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited.

By the end of 2020, the number of investors with A-share accounts reached around 177.77 million.

In December alone, about 1.62 million investors opened accounts in the country’s stock market, up 100.39 percent compared with the same period of the previous year, the data showed.
