Chinese mainland bars entry of meat products from Taiwan

The Chinese mainland has forbidden the entry of meat products produced in Taiwan or transported via Taiwan, a mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to concerns of some netizens that U.S. ractopamine-laced pork and beef imports greenlit by Taiwan will flow into the mainland market.

Relevant authorities on the mainland have stepped up inspections, said Zhu, adding that consumers who find meat products from Taiwan may report it to regulators.
