Closing the stable door

SJM Holdings considers the prostitute scandal involving the Administrative Director and Manager of Hotel Lisboa, Alan Ho, a wake-up call for improving security checks-ups and the responsibilities assumed by the top management team of the company.
“This reminds us that we have to review again our security check-ups and the responsibilities of our top management officers in order for our management to perform better”, the Managing Director of SJM, Angela Leong On Kei, said yesterday of the episode during the Presentation of the Grand Lisboa’s 8th Anniversary Charity Event.
Last week, Macau authorities arrested over 100 people in their crackdown on a prostitution ring, including the Administrative Director and Manager of Hotel Lisboa Alan Ho, nephew of Macau gaming tycoon and founder of SJM Holdings Stanley Ho.
“The shopping arcade (Sa Hun) on the ground floor of Hotel Lisboa is not under the management of SJM. However, concerning this incident, now the legal procedures have already started so I cannot really give further special comments on this”, Angela Leong added. However, she did not explain which entity would be responsible for the management of the shopping area.
Business Daily contacted SJM for further explanation about the question but the company press office said they would not be able to provide an answer on time.
Yesterday, SJM hosted, at Grand Lisboa Hotel, the Unveiling and Cheque Presentation Ceremony of the 8th Anniversary Charity Event, which was officiated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM Ambrose So.
“SJM is pleased to make donations of 80,000 patacas each to the Fuhong Society of Macau and to Macau Special Olympics as our way of expressing our appreciation for the valuable work that these institutions perform for the community”, Dr. So said. “We hope this display will serve as a reminder and encouragement of others in Macau to donate to these worthy organisations”.
In addition to the donation, the gaming operator bought 6,888 bars of soap, handmade by the Fuhong Soecity of Macau and wrapped by Macau Special Olympics members, which were shaped in a giant logo that will be put on display at the front door of Grand Lisboa Hotel.
