Construction worker dies at Galaxy expansion construction site

A 32-year-old mainland construction worker has died after a work accident at the Galaxy Macau expansion construction site, with the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) stating it is already investigating the incident.

The worker died after a high fall from the construction scaffolding this morning, with DSAL announcing it immediately sent personnel to the site to find out about the situation and monitor the case, ordering the respective contractor to suspend all work at a height of more than 2 meters.

‘DSAL will continue an exhaustive investigation into the causes of this accident and offer condolences to the victim’s relatives and will provide support in monitoring matters related to compensation arising from this accident, among other necessary support,’ the department added.

Last year the labour department also had to suspend works at Galaxy Phase 3 expansion work to carry out an investigation on a work accident that left three mainland workers dead and four injured.

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), indicated in its latest financial report that the opening of Galaxy Macau Phase 3 has been postponed until 2022, citing restrictions to workforce access due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the delay.

Some 14 people died due to work-related accidents in 2020, with 24 people suffering permanent disabilities.
