All teaching activities from tertiary education institutions and non-tertiary education were suspended from today (September 25) to October 3. The decision was communicated by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), and aims to “safeguard the health and safety of both students and teachers”, following the declaration of the “state of immediate prevention” at midnight today.
The measure was put in place after three new cases of Covid 19 were detected in just three days. The SAR Government followed measures taken earlier in August when a similar situation occurred. Commerce, Services and administrative activities were suspended at the time. This time extra measures had to be taken into account since the academic year had already commenced, forcing the Government to take extra preventative steps.
The DSEDJ announcement further instructs that schools must cancel all activities and courses on campus starting from September 25, cancel or postpone all class outings and visiting activities and suspend campus opening. It also advises cross-border students to reduce movement and avoid returning to Macau. The government also assures that the situation will be monitored closely.
