Covid-19 Portugal solidarity account raised MOP4.3 mln so far

The solidarity account set to raise funds to assist Portugal in efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic has raised some MOP4.3 million (US$545,624) as of today (Wednesday), local bank BNU has indicated to Macau News Agency.

The account was established by the Macau Solidarity Commission unites more than two dozen Macau-based Portuguese associations and entities, and has the institutional support of the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong, AICEP – Portugal Trade and Investment Agency, IPOR- Instituto Português do Oriente and BNU.

Proceeds from the fundraising effort will be used to purchase medical equipment to be sent to Portugal for use by frontline medical staff, with the Holy House of Mercy of Macau having yesterday made a MOP500,000 donation.

Although the final day for donations to the COVID 19 Solidariedade Portugal MOP account 9016556516 was set until April 7, the account is still processing transfers with the commission decide tomorrow when to close the account.
