Domestic loans to private sector drop

Domestic loans to the private sector in January dropped slightly by 0.7 percent on a monthly basis to MOP166.4 billion (US$20.8 billion). On the other hand, external loans rose 1.6 percent to MOP156.8 billion during the same period, preliminary data from the monetary authority shows. Meanwhile, total deposits with the banking sector increased 6.2 percent from a month earlier to MOP439.8 billion. The overall loan-to-deposit ratio contracted 4.3 percentage points to 73.5 percent in January.
