Tourist entries reported during Labour Day Golden week about 25pct of pre-pandemic times

The number of tourist entries reported in the Macau SAR between April 30 and May 4 was only 25 per cent of those reported during the Labour Day Golden Week in 2019, the Public Security Police Force (CPSP) indicated.

According to police authorities, a total of 1.7 million entries and exits were reported during this 5-day period, about 57 per cent of those reported in the year before the pandemic outbreak, and 186,000 tourism entries, about 25 per cent of the amount reported previously.

The average number of inbound tourists for that five day period was about 37,000, with May 1 (Saturday) reporting the highest daily number of tourist arrivals since the pandemic started, some 45,000.

The usual Labour Day Golden Week goes from May 1 to May 5, however local police authorities have decided to include April 30 and have yet to provide the total traffic numbers for May 5.

Macau authorities had previously estimated there would be a 20 per cent increase in daily visitors during the upcoming travel peak period, relative to the highest daily number recorded recently in April (34,353), based on hotel room booking information.
