Essential Macau | Enjoy your teatime in royal style

From now until 27 June, The Ritz-Carlton Bar & Lounge will collaborate with luxury watch brand Breguet to offer an enviable experience in royal style and café culture.

The connection between Breguet – founded by Abraham-Louis Breguet in Paris in 1775 – and the royal family began from the reign of Louis XVI. Queen Marie-Antoinette, fascinated with Breguet’s perpétuelle self-winding watches, acquired a number of his timepieces.

Later, with the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, the women associated with him also became Breguet’s customers, including his wife Josephine and his sister Caroline, who owned 34 of the brand’s watches and clocks.

From 1808 to 1815, Caroline acted as Queen consort of Naples, where her husband reigned. In 1810, this beautiful lady requested Breguet to make a wristwatch for her, the world’s first.

To commemorate the relationship with this loyal customer, Breguet has launched its Reine de Naples watch collection. Inspired by the first wristwatch, this collection showcases ovoid-shaped timepieces, sheer anthems of praise to femininity.

The Breguet afternoon tea set, too, is an exploration into the fine art of pastry making. Tapping into that feeling of French royalty, the menu includes an array of authentic French savouries such as Caviar-filled Cucumber with Cream Cheese & Dill, Provençale-style Black Olive Toast with Anchovies and Tomato, Foie Gras with Eel and Avocado, and Confit Pork Belly and Onion Jam Tartlet. The sweet selection features Opera Cake, Hazelnut Millefeuille, Lemon Meringue Tart, Orange Butter Cream Sablé, Crème Caramel, and Confit Orange, Chocolate Raisin and Plain Scones.

Moreover, for an additional fee you can enjoy two glasses of cocktail. Inspired by the fragrance of Queen Marie-Antoinette, this cocktail will definitely give you an unforgettably luxurious experience.

In addition, Breguet offers a gift voucher to guests who join for the afternoon tea, giving them the opportunity to not only eat like a queen, but shop like one as well.
