EXCLUSIVE-Paulo Rego resigns from Global Media Group Board

Paulo Rego has tendered his resignation letter as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Portugal-based media conglomerate Global Media Group, Macau News Agency (MNA) has learned. Mr Rego has confirmed to MNA that he is leaving the Board of Directors after almost three years as a member.

Paulo Rego, who is also founder and director of bilingual weekly newspaper Platforma Macau and multilingual news hub Platform Media, had been a member of the group’s board since November 2017, having served as Vice-President of the Executive Committee until November 2018.

A former deputy Editor-in-Chief of Portuguese News Agency Lusa, Paulo Rego was a representative in the board of directors of shareholder KNJ Investment, a company led by Macau businessman Kevin Ho that owns 35 per cent of the group.

MNA has also learned that the veteran journalist will continue to work with KNJ Investment.

Global Media Group is one of Portugal’s main media conglomerates. It publishes 19 media outlets, including news radio TSF and daily newspapers Dário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias.

Paulo Rego’s departure comes after it was announced that Grupo Bel, led by entrepreneur Marco Galinha, acquired a 40 per cent stake in the group. In his resignation letter Mr Rego says that KNJ Investment believes in the future of Global Media Group.
