Gaming operators asked by authorities to reinforce viral pneumonia risk preventive measures

The Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau (DICJ) announced it has contacted local gaming operators to reinforce their preventive measures in their casinos, due to the recent outbreak of a new strain of pneumonia coronavirus in Mainland China.

According to the latest information by Chinese authorities, the death toll from the new virus – which was found to be transmissible between humans – rose to six today, with a total of 258 cases recorded so far.

Macau authorities also announced today that they have created a contingency center to reinforce the response to the new coronavirus and extended the control of body temperature to all tourists from China.

So far, there is no confirmed case in Macau and the alert remains at level 3, regarding an average risk that requires tighter monitoring and which has been in effect since January 5.

According to the DICJ, currently, gambling operators conduct body temperature checks at all 405 public entrances and 47 entrances reserved for workers currently existing in all 39 local casinos.

With the Chinese New Year holiday season approaching – between January 25 and February 8 – and the number of visitor arrivals expected to increase, the DICJ asked concessionaires to conduct these body temperature checks ‘rigorously’, as well as to ‘keep an eye’ on the health status of casino goers and their employees.
