Macau’s gaming watchdog today welcomed its new deputy director Chui Hou Ian, who will hold the post for at least one year.
At an installation ceremony held today with Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong in attendance, Adriano Marques Ho, director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), said Chui was capable of being part of the casino regulator’s management considering his professional background linked to gaming.
Before taking up his new post, he was a consultant working in the office of the secretary for economy and finance.
The new DICJ deputy director graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, or known as UNLV, with a bachelor’s degree in gaming management. He later obtained a master’s degree in hotel management from the same university.
According to a 2012 biography note from UNLV’s campus in Singapore, he once worked at Wynn Las Vegas, before moving back to Macau before Wynn Macau opened. The document said he had gained “valuable experience in the gaming industry” from working for Wynn Resorts.
All about Macau reported that his father, Chui Yuk Lum, a businessman who heads the Industrial Association of Macau, provided support for Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng on his way to becoming the city’s leader in 2019.
The official had also been involved in pre-opening preparations at L’Arc Macau where he later served as a vice president responsible for casino management.
He was also a government representative at Sociedade de Lotarias Wing Hing, a lottery company under Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, S.A. for a year.
The other DICJ deputy director, Lio Chi Chong, was appointed in February 2021.
