‘Good’ air quality days in 2018 increase – Statistics Bureau

Macau (MNA) – The number of ‘good’ air quality days recorded in Macau in 2018 was ‘generally’ more than 2017, while a decrease in ‘poor’ air quality days was ‘significant’ in most of the monitoring stations, bar Taipa, according to the 2018 environmental data released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) on Thursday.

Water consumption was up 2.8 per cent to 90.944 million cubic metres, with the business sector consuming the largest part of water, with over 50 per cent of the total, up 3.4 per cent when compared to 2017.

Municipal solid waste treated by the refuse incineration plant increased 2.3 per cent year-on-year to 522,548 tonnes, while the volume of construction waste sent to landfill decreased by 31.5 per cent to 2.01 million cubic metres.

The population density was down to 20,000 people per square kilometre in 2018, a drop from the 21,100 people per square kilometre registered in 2017.

The DSEC noted that the drop was due to the New Urban Zone Area A and the cross-border area of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) being included in the latest statistics, which led the land area in Macau to increase by 2.1 square kilometres to 32.9 square kilometres in 2018.
