Gov’t calls for blood donations from residents

The Health Bureau called upon residents to donate blood, noting that although the number of patients requiring blood transfusion has not decreased, almost all appointments for blood donation by associations and groups have been suspended at the local Blood Transfusion Centre due to measures taken to control the pandemic.

“The Blood Transfusion Center needs the support of residents more than ever so it hopes residents can, on their own initiative, go to Center for blood donation,” health authorities added.

Since March 25 the Health Bureau Blood Transfusion Center has suspended blood donations for individuals who have travelled in any region outside of Macau or Mainland China (except Hubei province); or individuals who have had close contact with confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Confirmed Covid-19 cases cannot donate blood until 28 days after their recovery.

Donors who present symptoms of fever, cough, fatigue, muscle pain and diarrhoea within 28 days after the blood donation, etc., must immediately notify the Blood Transfusions Center.

Macau has so far registered 31 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 21 reported in the last 10 days.
