Govt cuts Galaxy imported labour quota

The government has cut Galaxy Entertainment Group’s imported labour quota by “nearly 1,000”, which amounts to one third of the company’s non-local workers. The coordinator of the Human Resources Office (GRH), Wong Chi Hong, said the decision was made as a result of Galaxy having failed to meet the 1:1 proportion in the construction industry at Galaxy Macau’s construction site. According to Wong, since April, six other companies besides Galaxy have been found to have allegedly violated this proportion. The affected workers are in the process of leaving Macau. Meanwhile, Wong added that Sands China has been placing recruitment adds seeking local construction workers at the Labour Affairs Bureau for the resumption of its Parcels 5 and 6 projects in Cotai. The company already filed an imported construction worker application, but GRH decided accordingly with the recruitment results at the DSAL, Wong Chi Hong said.
