Gov’t officials can’t just sit in their offices – CE candidate

The sole Chief Executive (CE) candidate, Ho Iat Seng, said today that he would like to visit local residential areas more frequently if he is elected, in order to get to know the local society better.

As part of his campaign scheduled tours, Ho today visited the Lok Yeung Day Care Centres of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) to know about the rehabilitation practices for elders.

In order to improve social affairs services in the community, the candidate said that the government must communicate more with front line personnel rather than “merely sitting in the office” and should reasonably distribute and utilize social resources.

He emphasized that the local government must burden the responsibilities of caring for local elders, but the government should give support if some aging residents want to stay in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

“The new residential project in Hengqin will give more opportunities for people who want to live in a better space and environment, I hoped the Greater Bay Area (GBA) could help us in this part,” he added.

The CE candidate also visited the new-renovated Patane Municipal Market today, with several small shop tenants complaining to him that their business area is too small and that customer flows were weaker than before.

Ho said after his visit that he seldom had chances to visit residential areas in the past, but that now as a CE candidate, he believed that he could get to know more about local society.

“I am quite sorry to disturb their business today, but I am want to visit more in the future […] but if I did warn the media about my visit, you’d complain about me. However, it is crowded if we have too many media, so we need to balance it. But overall, walking is not a big deal for me, I would like to go around,” he said.
