Gov’t renews four telecom licenses

The Macau government has renewed 3G and 4G telecom licenses held by CTM, Hutchinson, China Telecom and Smartone.

According to several Chief Executive orders published today at Official Gazette, the license to install and operate 3G and 4G public land mobile telecommunications networks and provide public use land mobile telecommunications services with these four operators have all been renewed.

The current 3G service contracts from the four operators were renewed from June of next year to June 2025, while those for 4G network were also from June 2023 to June 2028.

The Macau SAR government on June 30 approved long-awaited regulations that will finally allow for 5G network operations and licensing, with the future public tender to award four 5G licenses for mobile and public land mobile telecommunications network services.

Proposals for the city’s first 5G licenses can be submitted until August 12 of this year to the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (DSRT) with the decision on the allocation of the future four licenses revealed until February, 2023.
