Large-scale drainage works in Avenida de Venceslau de Morais needed to meet the public housing and the development plans for the avenue’s surrounding areas will be initiated on January 4 of next year and last for 160 days, the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) announced today (Wednesday).
The project is one of 55 large scale works covering the city’s main avenues in the pipeline for next year.
In order to reduce the impact of the works in local residents as little as possible, the project will be carried out in phases, and in order to shorten the period of execution, daily work will be allowed until 10:00 pm and also on Sundays and holidays.
The project involves mainly installing rain and wastewater collectors, repaving roads and sidewalks, installing metal railings and the repair of damaged pavements.
First phase works will be carried out in January, starting from the corner between Avenida de Venceslau de Morais and Avenida do Nordeste towards Rua dos Pescadores.
Provisional transit provisions will be implemented in the area of execution of the work and in the surrounding roads, so citizens are urged to pay attention to the provisional transit provisions in the vicinity, in order to organize their travel in advance.
The recently revealed city urban master plan also proposes to gradually convert the various industrial buildings along with Avenida de Venceslau de Morais into office buildings, with the aim of reducing the adverse impact of industrial activities on residents living in the area so as to increase their quality of life.
Public housing on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais is also currently under construction on the land of the former CEM station, in an 11,443 square meters land plot, including a bus terminal, a basement auto-silo, as well as government service facilities.
With the completion of the project, 1,590 housing units and around 900 parking spaces for light vehicles and motorcycles will be made available.
A MOP509.2 million (US$63.7 million) contract was granted to Companhia de Engenharia e de Construção da China (Macau), Limitada for foundation and underground park works, which were initiated in 2018 and are expected to finish in December, 2021.
