Grand Lisboa Palace Karl Lagerfeld Hotel to open on Dec 3

The Karl Lagerfeld Hotel at SJM Resorts Grand Lisboa Palace will open on December 3, the property announced.

The new hotel designed by the late German fashion designer is expected to feature 270 guest rooms in 20-storey tower and has already opened for bookings.

Lagerfeld designed not just the hotel, but its rooms, suites, and F&B outlets, namely the contemporary Portuguese restaurant Mesa – which has been open since June – and the Statement Bar.

Lagerfeld launched a hospitality line in 2016, with some of his most famous interior projects including Hôtel de Crillon in Paris and Sofitel So Singapore. He passed away in 2019 and was creative director of Chanel for 36 years.

The HK$39 billion property opened its doors to the public on July 30, 2021 with only 300 of the 1,350 rooms included in the Grand Lisboa Palace Macau Hotel available, plus some restaurants and event space.

In total SJM’s first Cotai property includes approximately 1,900 hotel rooms and suites in three hotels — the Grand Lisboa Palace, the Karl Lagerfeld, and the yet to open 290-room Palazzo Versace, the first designed by Donatella Versace in Asia.

SJM’s chairman and executive director, Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, previously said that the group would slowly increase the number of rooms according to actual demand, with the second phase will depend on the pandemic progression and travel restrictions.

The Grand Lisboa Palace generated HK$128 million (US$16.4 million) in gross revenue in the third quarter of this year, with HK$176 in negative adjusted EBITDA, after including pre-opening expenses of HK$300 million.
