GT Cup warm-up cut short after crash by Ya Qi Zhang

TSRT’s Ya Qi Zhang brings Warm-Up for the Sands China Macau GT Cup to an abrupt end.

The Chinese driver’s Audi R8 LMS GT3 crashed heavily into the Mandarin Corner barriers in the 15-minute warm-up session for this afternoon’s Macau GT Cup. The session was immediately red-flagged.

An ambulance arrived at the scene, and unconfirmed information is that Ya Qi Zhang is Ok and taken to hospital for further checking. 

A medical bulletin update later informed that Zhang suffered right multiple rib fractures, a right pneumothorax, a light lung contusion, and some abrasions. He was conscious but declared not fit to race.

The Sands China Macau GT Cup Race 1 was set to take place at 3:50pm today, but program delays to repair the damaged safety barriers delayed the start.
