Guangdong-Macau IC Park to house 100 enterprises in four years

Hengqin authorities have announced that the Guangdong-Macau Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Industrial Park aims to accommodate 100 enterprises by 2026, with the total annual output to reach RMB10 billion (MOP11.4 billion/US$1.4 billion), double its previous goal.

The industrial compound, which opened in December 2021, is now a production hub of high-tech components, such as graphics processing units, source driver ICs, and micro-electromechanical systems.

During the January to September period this year, total revenue generated in the cooperation zone reached RMB1.972 billion, up 43.4 percent year-on-year, a government press release said.

Director of the Economic Development Bureau of Hengqin, António Lei, said that the cooperation zone would serve to support Macau’s economic diversification, and provide opportunities for local sci-tech talent and entrepreneurs looking to pursue their dreams in the IC field.

An integrated circuit research institute in the park has already reached a partnership with the University of Macau, with a view to cultivating IC innovation between the two institutions.

Under new measures introduced in July this year, newcomers with capital contribution no less than RMB10 million are entitled to a one-off subsidy of up to RMB5 million.

Zhuhai has already set up several IC industrial funds, such as the RMB12-billion Guangdong-Macau Semiconductor Fund, as well as the RMB9-billion Guangdong Semiconductor and IC Design Sub Fund.

The IC design industry of neighbouring Zhuhai, is ranked second in the Greater Bay Area for its scale and high growth rate.
