Guangdong outbreak caused 39pct drop in June visitor numbers

The previous outbreak in Guangdong caused visitor numbers to drop by 39 per cent month-to-month in June, data published by the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) shows.

In total last month reported some 528,519 visitors, of which 313,441 were same-day visitors and 215,078 were overnight visitors.

The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.9 days) reducing by 2.7 days.

The drop also caused June to report the worst monthly gross gaming results since November, 2020, reporting some MOP6.5 billion.

In the first half of 2021, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 20.2 per cent year-on-year to 3,927,829, with overnight visitors (2,058,657) and same-day visitors (1,869,172) increasing by 33.2 per cent and 8.5 per cent year-on-year, respectively.

However, after pandemic prevention and control measures implemented in Guangdong Province and Macau in early June were eased, visitor numbers have picked up to some 49,200 daily visitor arrivals and departures.
