Health authorities expand target groups of Filipino domestic work entry exemption trial scheme

Health authorities will expand the groups targeted in a recently launched entry exemption trial scheme for Filipino domestic workers.

Since April 25 local authorities started receiving applications for eligible domestic workers or prospective domestic workers of Philippine nationality for an exemption from entry restrictions through their employer or employment agency.

The scheme is aimed at providing assistance in the care of those aged 65-years or above, children aged 3 or below or those suffering from illnesses.

Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre Coordinator Dr. Leong Iek Hou indicated that so far six applications were received under the plan, of which five were approved, with the scheme to enter into its second stage from May 9.

Starting from that day applications for domestic helpers will be allowed if their purpose is to take care of children under the age of 12 and people suffering from illness or disabilities, with elderly care requirements remaining the same.

The online application system has been optimized so that citizens can input information for temporary storage from Thursday to Sunday, and submit applications from Monday to Wednesday.
