Health authorities on alert following new COVID-19 case in Zhuhai

Macau health authorities are paying close attention to the situation in the neighbouring city of Zhuhai after a new COVID-19 case was reported earlier this Sunday, according to a statement.

Zhuhai authorities reported that a person in Doumen, Zhuhai City, had a positive test for COVID-19 21 days after returning from Ukraine, as reported by TDM Radio Macau. The individual in question was already in the health self-management period.

On the 2nd of January a person from Ukraine arrived in Guangzhou (Guangzhou) on the 2nd of January. After 14 days of medical observation in isolation in Guangzhou, the same returned to Zhuhai for health self-management at home for another 7 days. According to Zhuhai authorities this person’s nucleic acid test was positive.

Samples were collected from close contacts and the environment for nucleic acid tests for a new type of coronavirus, all of which were negative So far among the close contacts, no one has been to Macau

Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre said they are “in constant contact with the Zhuhai authorities” and urged everyone who has been in Zhuhai’s Doumen district from 16 to 23 January and who have symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing or lack of taste and smell, among other ailments, to go immediately to the Emergency Department of the Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário for medical consultation. The Coordination and Contingency Centre adds that it is monitoring the situation closely and will announce further measures if necessary.
