Some 93,356 people have already introduced their place of residence after a new health code address requirement was relaunched.
The new function applies to local residents and non-residents living or staying in Macau, who will need to indicate the address of the place where they usually stay, such as workplaces, casinos or hotels in order to be issued with updated health code, necessary to enter several public areas in the city.
Residents are allowed to only provide the street name or the name of the building of residence.
Local authorities have justified the new measures on preparations for possible preventive and control pandemic measures based on specific zones and levels, similar to measures in force in Mainland China, even though no Covid-19 cases have been reported in Macau for six months.
The government had to suspend the new function on Christmas Eve after a technical malfunction, with the service relaunched for a new 14-day trial period on January 5 after which it will become mandatory.
The Health Bureau indicated to have carried out data flow pressure tests on the local Health Code system to ensure that the server can process up to 800,000 people using the new address function in one hour.
If the flow used by residents exceeds this value, at the same time, the system will automatically suspend the function of filling in the address data, so as not to affect the creation of the Health Code and access to establishments.
