Hong Kong police have charged 47 of the city’s leading pro-democracy activists with one count each of “conspiracy to commit subversion” under a sweeping national security law. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the courthouse next day chanting slogans and flashing protest symbols as the dissidents were expected to be charged in court.
